I have been a huge fan of Niessing’s work since I began in the jewellery world almost 20 years ago. So to be working closely with them now through DESIGNYARD is a great feeling. Niessing jewellery arriving at DESIGNYARD is the start of a beautiful design relationship between one of the worlds finest contemporary jewellery companies and Ireland’s leading contemporary jewellery gallery.

Each year at Inhorgenta Munich I would visit their stand and drool over their displays, asking questions about the techniques used to create a design and be fascinated by the responses.

Niessing are unlike any other company jewellery company and they certainly have left their mark on the jewellery world with their iconic and instantly recognisable designs, unconventional thinking and new ideas.

At Niessing not only do they excel at design and craftwork they also have the deep technical experience and knowledge to create their own colours of gold, the entire alloying process takes place at their factory in Vreden Germany.

Gold has so many colours, gold that is soft and warm like a sandy beach, or fresh and clear like a summer morning at the lake. Gold that glows like the sun in that special moment just before the sun set. Gold that is so beautiful that it seems to blush. Pure gold, in rich yellow.

If gold looks so much like fresh hay on a sunny meadow, perhaps you can even smell it? Niessing’s designers and goldsmiths are sure you can—and they should know! For they managed to draw a colour spectrum from precious gold that is truly unique. Niessing made the colour wheel of gold come full circle.

Niessing designs start with an idea or fantasy and evolve through a series of experiments, trail and error and collaboration between the goldsmiths and the designers who work extremely closely. In some instances the designs have taken decades to come to fruition.

“The design team observes the Bauhaus principle. The drafts should be relevant regarding innovation, design, technology and the very essence of a phenomenon. A classic example is the floating element of the tension ring. Each draft is examined for its long-term validity.
